A three-part, 33-track rock opera? It could only be The Smashing Pumpkins, couldn’t it?
The Smashing Pumpkins are back and pushing themselves further than ever before with their new record.
It’s going to be called ‘ATUM’, and will be a three-part 33-track rock opera, serving as a sequel to 1995’s ‘Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness’ and 2000’s ‘Machina/Machine of God’.
With us so far? Good.
‘Act 1’ will be released on November 15, ‘Act 2’ on January 31st, 2023 and ‘Act 3’, alongside a special edition box set featuring all 33 album tracks plus 10 additional unreleased songs, will be released on April 21st, 2023.
Each song is also set to be dissected and discussed on Billy Corgan’s new podcast ‘Thirty-Three with William Patrick Corgan’, with the first two episodes available right now right HERE
The artwork for the whole project also looks like this:
You can hear the first single from the project right now in the form of ‘Beguiled’, which is a pounding piece of futuristic rock.
