Following the release of Avengers: Endgame in 2019, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has struggled to recapture the magic that made it so successful up until that point.
Through a combination of over-saturation, subpar quality, and just downright bad luck, the MCU has simply not been what it was during its heyday, and it’s difficult to imagine it ever getting back to that place, especially considering the apparent lineup for the next Avengers film.
Granted, while nothing is confirmed and these are just rumors and fan-driven speculation, the cast of the next Avengers film is set to feature Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Benedict Wong as Wong, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as the Wasp, Awkwafina as Katy, Simu Liu and Shang-Chi and Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk.
What’s strange about this list is that veteran Avengers such as Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man do not appear.
While the title of the next Avengers movie was set to be Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the future of the film is currently in question given the legal situation surrounding Jonathan Majors, who was recently fired by the franchise after being found guilty of assault and harassment.
Despite Majors’ firing from the franchise, Marvel intends to forge forward with the film, although it’s unclear if the role will be recast or if the franchise will pivot to an entirely new villain.
Then, in 2027, a year after the release of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (or whatever it’ll eventually called), another Avengers movie, perhaps the biggest Marvel film ever in Avengers: Secret Wars, is also scheduled to hit theaters.
Rumors about Secret Wars have been going in the opposite direction of The Kang Dynasty, as some fans have speculated it could include the likes of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
