Following the premiere of the film on Wednesday night, the first reactions to Marvel Studios’ highly-anticipated Black Panther: Wakanda Forever have begun to hit the internet.
The film — tasked with coping with the death of Chadwick Boseman following his tragic passing back in 2020 — is a sequel to 2018’s Oscar-nominated Black Panther and will be the final film in “Phase 4” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The first reactions to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hail the film as an epic sequel and a worthy tribute to Chadwick Boseman
“Another reason I’m so impressed with #BlackPantherWakandaForever is Ryan Coogler had the impossible task of trying to make a sequel without Chadwick Boseman & make it feel respectful but also keep the franchise going and he hit a home run. Going to be HUGE hit for Marvel Studios,” said this Collider writer.
“Black Panther: #WakandaForever is as epic as Marvel sequels get. The story is hugely ambitious & thematically rewarding with gut-wrenching twists and turns throughout. You feel the length but it’s fun, wildly beautiful and has the best credits scene in Marvel history, no contest,” tweeted Gizmodo’s reviewer.
“WAKANDA FOREVER is a beautifully cathartic tribute to the legacy of Chadwick Boseman. Reminds us of his monumental impact & that he’s truly still here with us. Great performances from Gurira, Bassett, Wright & Thorne. Huerta was INCREDIBLE. Loved Rihanna’s song & Ludwig’s score,” hailed this journalist.
“Black Panther: #WakandaForever is Marvel’s most poignant and powerful film to date. It’s heavy and dark in the way that it needed to be, and mostly abandons the studio’s trademark tone. The craft work levels up in every conceivable way, and the performances rise to the occasion,” said this THR reporter.
“Wakanda Forever had so many emotions!!! It was creepy and BRU-TAL in parts. Heartbreaking and beautiful. And the fight scenes were WILD. I’m in awe of the care put into representing these cultures,” this actress claimed.
I’m actually checking out Wakanda Forever myself in a couple of hours, so make sure to swing back over to BroBible and our Post-Credit Podcast to see my thoughts.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever — which stars Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Tenoch Huerta, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett — will hit theaters in the United States on November 11.
A sequel to 2018’s Best Picture-nominated Black Panther, it will be the final film in the MCU’s Phase 4 and the last MCU movie of the year. Then, in 2023, Phase 5 will kick off with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which will introduce Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror, one of the primary antagonists of the Multiverse Saga.
