The Deslondes Rock Newport Late-Night with Tyler Ballgame

On Friday night, New Orleans’ favorite sons, The Deslondes, lit up The Parlor in Newport, Rhode Island,
for a jovial after-party performance following a tumultuous day at the Newport Folk Festival. The quintet
kicked off the 2025 edition of the famed festival with an early, Quad Stage set at the fest’s Fort Adams
home, then moved uptown to the Broadway club for a late-night affair. Fortunately, the band’s well-received Folk appearance preceded a temporary shutdown of the entire event, as stormy weather
interrupted the afternoon schedule for several hours.
For its sold-out Parlor showing, the ensemble offered some repeats from their earlier frame at the Fort,
but also added in several other nuggets from its revolving repertoire. As well, The Deslondes welcomed
Tyler Ballgame for a pair, featuring the singer on a spirited rendition of Ray Charles’ “What’d I Say.”
Ballgame was slated to open Saturday’s festival slate with an appearance on the Fort stage. The
Deslondes will enjoy a weekend off the road by remaining in the City by the Sea for the rest of the fest,
before resuming its tour schedule with a Monday night show north of the border in Montreal.
