Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, a new documentary about the actor Christopher Reeve, will begin streaming on Max on Saturday, December 7th.
Directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, Super/Man follows Reeve’s life, career, and resilience after a near-fatal horseback riding accident in 1995, which left him paralyzed from the neck down. Known for his iconic role as Superman in the 1978 film and its subsequent sequels, Reeve became a major advocate for disability rights after his accident and led the Christopher and Dana Reeve foundation up until his death in 2004 at the age of 52.
The film features interviews from several major figures in Reeve’s life, including his children, Matthew Reeve, Alexandra Reeve Givens and Will Reeve; actors Susan Sarandon, Glenn Close, Jeff Daniels, Whoopi Goldberg; half-brother Kevin Johnson; friend Michael Manganiello; Superman producer Pierre Spengler; and former secretary of state John Kerry. The film also features extended archival footage of figures like Robin Williams (Reeve’s Julliard roommate), Reeve’s wife, Dana Reeve, father Franklin Reeve, mother Barbara Johnson, and Superman director Richard Donner.
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story premiered at Sundance 2024 and received a wide theatrical release on October 11th. The film is a co-production between HBO and DC Studios, with CNN Films, Words + Pictures, A Passion Pictures, and Misfits Entertainment also producing. Watch an official trailer for the film below.
