Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in first-century Israel, The Chosen is a seven-season series that shares an authentic and intimate look at Jesus’ revolutionary life and teachings. The Chosen is written, directed, and produced by 5&2 Studios’ Dallas Jenkins.
The Chosen’s theatrical releases of Seasons 3 through 5 have grossed more than $140 million worldwide in 55 territories. The domestic theatrical releases were previously handled by Fathom Events.
Seasons 6 will be available to stream on Prime Video prior to the theatrical debut of the finale, while Season 7 will stream on Prime Video following the theatrical run of the premiere. Season 5 will premiere on Prime Video June 15, 2025 in the U.S.
Lionsgate handles global distribution for the series and negotiated the theatrical deal. The 5&2 Studios streaming deal with Amazon MGM Studios is similar to other Lionsgate third-party deals, i.e. Lionsgate’s multi-year deal with Hulu to take U.S. streaming rights on Schitt’s Creek.
Prime Video also has a multi-year agreement for Lionsgate movies which gives the streamer an exclusive early window to the studio’s pics after their exclusive first-run window on Starz. The deal commences with Lionsgate’s 2026 theatrical releases and also includes the studio’s 2025 slate and a commitment for licensing library movies and TV.
