Teen Mom Chelsea Houska charges $8k for couch and $100 for one pillow as decor store is slammed for ‘overpriced’ items

TEEN Mom alum Chelsea Houska owns a decor store in Tea, South Dakota, but customers have complained of the expensive items for sale.

Chelsea, 33, and her husband, Cole DeBoer, star on HGTV’s Down Home Fab, as the home renovation show is in its 4th season.

After success from the series, Chelsea and Cole opened up Down Home by DeBoers in March 2024 in the small town of Tea, South Dakota.

The U.S. Sun has obtained exclusive photos of the stunning store – and the cost of high-priced decor items.

One of the most expensive items in the store is a beige leather couch for $8,600.

The couch is rustic, as it has scratches and faded parts in the leather.

One Checkboard Weave Lumbar Pillow seen on the couch could set a customer back $99.

A gray love seat is $2,200, while a black circular table for dining is $2,000.

A display of cowhides is on sale for a whopping $250 each.

For the lower-end items, which still have a hefty price tag, a glass soy candle is $60.

A warthdog tusk bottle opener is $52, while a small bronze pheasant figurine is $40.

A white flower pot could set a customer back $33.

A source exclusively told The U.S. Sun, “It’s pristine and gorgeous, but I can’t imagine them doing much business.

“They have an $8,000 couch in there. No one is buying this couch.

“It’s very high end for the area. It’s not even a neighborhood, it’s off a freeway. Fans of the store will visit it, but they’re not buying anything.”

CUSTOMER BACKLASH

Customers have turned to Google reviews to express their frustration over the expensive items.

One customer wrote, “Very expensive store. Over 70+ for a candle, I don’t think so!!”

A second commented, “I was in the area for a wedding and thought it would be a good place for a gift. Everything is way overpriced and not one person said hello to me and I was the only one in the store at the time. Worst thing about a business is greed.

Customer service replied to the negative review, “Regarding our pricing, we aim to offer a range of unique and high-quality items, and we understand that our products may not fit everyone’s budget.

“However, your feedback is valuable, and we are continuously reviewing our pricing to ensure we are providing the best value for our customers.”

A third wrote, “Great place but a little pricy, definitely will go back.”

However, many customers did praise the store, as one wrote, “Amazing selection. The cutest interior! Staff is so friendly and helpful!”

A second said, “The workers were very friendly and the store had some really cool home decor.”

NEW VENTURE

Chelsea announced in March 2024 that they are opening a home goods store in Tea, South Dakota.

In March, they celebrated the one-year opening of the store.

Chelsea captioned a series of photos of customers in the shop, “We did not expect this. Cole and I said it over and over (and over) again at our 1-year celebration.

“You guys. We’re honestly blown away by the love, support, and just how many of you showed up to celebrate Down Home with us.

“We built this place with our hearts and seeing it grow into something this special? It’s so much more than we could’ve hoped for.

“THANK YOU for being part of it. Next up… ONLINE. So we can get a little bit of @downhomedeboers everywhere.”

In May, Down Home’s products became available online to customers.

MOVE TO HGTV

Chelsea, Cole and their children left Teen Mom 2 in 2020 after 10 seasons.

In 2022, Chelsea and Cole got a home renovation show called Down Home Fab on HGTV.

The show is currently airing its 4th season.

Chelsea and and her husband Cole share children Watson, 8, Layne, 6, and Walker, 4.

She is also mom to Aubree, 15, with ex-boyfriend Adam Lind.

Teen Mom: The Next Chapter Cast

In September 2022, MTV blended their long-running shows Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2 to one series following the young mothers’ experiences raising their kids and co-parenting with their baby dads. Here’s a list of the entire Teen Mom: The Next Chapter cast.

BABY DADDY DRAMA

The U.S. Sun previously obtained photos of Adam, 36, for the first time after he disappeared from public life eight years ago.

In the exclusive photos, Adam could be seen outside of the $112,000 Sioux Falls, South Dakota home he purchased on Teen Mom 2 in 2016.

Adam could be seen checking his mail and blowing leaves outside of the four-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch house on Thursday, May 29.

He wore a hoodie, jeans and sunglasses for the brief outing.

On Friday, May 30, Adam left his house in his black corvette and drove to a construction site.

In a second set of photos, he walked around the site and spoke with workers.

He wore a green t-shirt, cameo shorts and sunglasses for the outing.

The insider told The U.S. Sun, “He went to a work site. He was smiling, having jokes with the workers.

“He walked around and checked the equipment out. He looked like the foreman of the site.

“He stayed for about twenty minutes before continuing with his day.”

As seen on Teen Mom 2, Chelsea and Adam had a tumultuous co-parenting relationship through the years.

Because of his legal issues, Chelsea fought for Adam to only be able to see Aubree at a visitation center.

On one episode, Aubree, who was eight at the time, was stood up by her father during a visit at the center.

But Adam has maintained a relationship with Aubree through the years.

Chelsea told The Ashley’s Reality Roundup in 2023, “Honestly, everyone wants to know about our relationship and where it stands, and I totally understand that.

“It’s a main question because it was such a huge story[line] of ours. Our relationship, it’s fine. We’re not best friends, but we’re not enemies at all.

“If I were to see him, there would be no bad feelings at all.”

Chelsea said Aubree’s relationship with Adam has improved as well, as the teen now coordinates when she sees him.
