House of the Dragon has obviously been a massive success for HBO as the series is not only receiving rave reviews and massive amounts of viewership but it’s already been renewed for a second season before the first even comes to a conclusion. Some of the marketing, on the other hand, hasn’t been as stellar.
We now take you to Tuesday night’s ALDS clash between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians, which the Bombers ultimately won 4-1. During some point in the game, Bob Costas — calling his first MLB playoff series in 20+ years — tossed it over to sideline reporter Lauren Shehadi for a brutal cross-promotional moment that saw the poor women have to “explain” that the game was almost canceled because of… a dragon flying over the field. Truly gauge-your-own-eyes out stuff.
TBS rolled out a truly awful House of the Dragon promo during Game 1 of the ALDS between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians
“Now, you know, big sellout crowd here, but we weren’t 100% sure this game was gonna be played tonight. And for more, it’s shocking. Here’s Lauren Shehadi…” Costas said.
“Wild stuff, here’s what we know: apparently one of the stars of HBO’s House of the Dragon has decided to take in a ballgame here in the Bronx,” Shehadi says as the camera pans up to a cheaply rendered CGI dragon flaps its wings above Yankee Stadium.
“Officials are hopeful that the dragon won’t breathe fire during gameplay,” she continued. “But we’ll see if he complies. By the way, House of the Dragon is streaming on HBO Max if you want to check it out. Back to you.”
