Eddie Murphy apparently had his work cut out for him with his new onscreen daughter.
The actor’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F co-star Taylour Paige revealed her favorite part about working with Murphy on the long-overdue followup to his action comedy trilogy that all began in 1984.
“I grew up watching The Nutty Professor and Dr. Dolittle. It was like I knew him — it was surreal,” she told Empire of working with the Saturday Night Live alum.
“The objective was to try and get the man who made the world laugh to laugh,” added Paige. “I found it quite fun to crack him.”
She explained that her goal was to keep things light on the set of the comedy. “The world often feels like it’s in a chronic coma,” Paige said. “And without being too grandiose, I want to be a part of something which helps people to snap out of it.”
Murphy reprises his role as Detroit-born cop Axel Foley in the upcoming Netflix sequel after starring in the first three films, which premiered in 1984, 1987 and 1994. Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot also reprise their roles.
The newest installment sees Murphy’s eponymous character team up with his new partner Detective Bobby Abbott (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) after his estranged daughter, criminal defense attorney Jane Saunders’ (Paige) life is threatened.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F premieres July 3 on Netflix.
