The legendary TAMLA Records has been relaunched under Capitol Music Group and will now be based out of Nashville. Founded in 1959 by Motown Records icon Berry Gordy, the label seeks to “redefine” the faith music landscape.

TAMLA is now helmed by Walter Thomas, senior VP for Motown Gospel & TAMLA. “TAMLA Records has always been a beacon of innovation, quality, and artistry,” he said. “Now, under the Capitol Christian Music Group umbrella, we have the opportunity to continue this legacy while pushing the boundaries of what positive music can be. Our mission is simple: to uplift the voices of artists who are creating positive, life-changing music.”

The Grammy Award-winning songwriter/producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins has partnered with TAMLA to sign and develop emerging talent under his imprint, EVOLVE Music Group. “Berry Gordy built TAMLA on the principles of artist development, excellence, and music that moves people,” he said. “That vision still stands today, and we are proud to continue carrying it forward as we launch this new chapter.”

TAMLA’s current roster now includes Childlike CiCi, Jordan L’Oreal, Emmanuel Da Prophet, Dante Bowe, and Lee Vasi. The label has also entered into a partnership with AMG Music Group (Anderson Music Group). The TAMLA label team includes senior director of A&R Alex Dollar, senior director of marketing Justin Tomlinson, director of A&R Justin Pearson, and more.

In 1959, Gordy founded TAMLA Records with the help of an $800 loan from his family. A year later, TAMLA merged with Motown into Motown Record Corporation and was on its way to changing the music industry forever. Motown’s first album was Hi… We’re the Miracles, released in 1961. The album included “Shop Around,” Motown’s first single to sell more than a million copies.
