Back in April, it was reported that rising star Glen Powell had been tapped to star in a remake of the 1987 action film Running Man with filmmaker Edgar Wright reportedly set to direct.

Now, rumors indicate that Glen Powell might be joined by his former Anyone But You co-star, who is also reportedly starring in an upcoming Wright-directed film: a remake of the 1968 Jane Fonda-starring sci-fi Barbarella.

While they are only rumors at this point, Powell and Sweeney’s reuniting seems likely considering both the success of Anyone But You and their previously stated intention of working together again.

The Running Man, which was released in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role, is set to begin filming this Fall. The film is based on the Stephen King novel Running Man, published in 1982.

Barbarella, on the other hand, is still in preproduction. Currently, the only other projects on Sweeney’s upcoming slate are a biopic about boxer Christy Martin and the third season of Euphoria.

Here’s the official synopsis for 1987’s The Running Man, which was directed by Paul Michael Glaser.

“Set in 2025, the story follows a man named Ben Richards (Schwarzenegger) while he participates in a deadly game show, called The Running Man, which sees him declared an enemy of the state and hunted by a ground of murderous hitmen”

This week, it was also reported that Powell is in talks to star in J.J. Abrams’ next movie alongside fellow breakout star Jenna Ortega. Powell — who has starred in Anyone But You, Hit Man , and Twisters in the last nine months — is also attached to films such as Huntington and Monsanto.
