One of Sydney Sweeney‘s many upcoming projects is a biopic about boxer Christy Martin. The film, which does not yet have an official title, is being directed by David Michôd, who previously directed the Netflix movies War Machine in 2017 and The King in 2019.

According to reports, the Sydney Sweeney-starring Christy Martin biopic, “tells the true story of Martin, who rose to fame as America’s most successful female boxer in the 1990s, at the same time as dealing with personal demons and toxic relationships behind the scenes.”

During a recent interview with W Magazine, Sweeney — whose latest film Echo Valley alongside Academy Award winner Julianne Moore — releases on AppleTV+ this weekend — said that she gained over 30 pounds to portray Martin in the film, and that the weight she gained went both to her chest and her behind.

“My body was completely different. I loved it. I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training. I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour,” Sweeney told W Magazine.

“I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, Oh my God.But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.”

Alongside Sweeney, the still-untitled Christy Martin movie will also feature Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, and Chad L. Coleman.

In addition to Echo Valley and the Christy Martin movie the up-and-coming A-lister is also attached to a multiple of different films in the coming years such as Americana and Eden, both of which will release on August 22, The Housemaid (hitting theaters on Christmas), Barbarella directed by Edgar Wright, an adaptation of the popular Japanese anime Gundam, OutRun directed by Michael Bay, I Pretended to be A Missing Girl, and more.
