Today, American icon Stevie Nicks released her take on the timeless protest song by Buffalo Springfield’ “For What It’s Worth.” As of late, the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has been performing the song live as part of her ongoing U.S. tour, which will continue through late October.
Early this week, the Fleetwood Mac singer shared a written message on her socials that explained her thoughts on releasing her take on the song: “I am so excited to release my new song this Friday. It’s called “For what it’s Worth,” and it was written by Stephen Stills in 1966. It meant something to me then, and it means something to me now. I always wanted to interpret it thru the eyes of a woman – and it seems like today, in the times that we live in – that it has a lot to say… I can’t wait for you to heart. Love Stevie Nicks.
Nicks recorded her cover of “For What It’s Worth” earlier this year in LA with longtime members of her touring band. On the cover, she is joined by backing vocalist Sharon Celani, who began recording and performing with Nicks in 1978, along with renowned guitarist Waddy Wachtel, who has known Nicks since 1973, when he played on Buckingham Nicks. It’s notable that since ’73, Wachtel has appeared on all of Nicks’ solo studio projects and the single was produced by Grammy-award-winning producer Greg Kurstin who also plays drums, organ and guitar on the song.
“For What It’s Worth” is available today as a digital download and streaming single.
