Steven Martin and Martin Short Read Their Eulogies to Each Other on ‘SNL’

Saturday Night Live enlisted not one, but two comedy legends for this week’s episode.

Frequent collaborators Steve Martin and Martin Short returned to 30 Rock on Saturday to share the highly coveted hosting duties. The two, who gave long histories with the comedy sketch series, kicked off the episode with a monologue, in which they reflected on Steve hosting SNL 16 times (Marty has three times), meeting new cast members, and getting ready for their hosting gigs. They also thought it would be funny if they read each other’s eulogies, knowing that the two of them wouldn’t live forever.

You can check out their monologue below. Selena Gomez also makes a cameo.

Martin and Short have become one of Hollywood’s most iconic comedy duos, having worked together on multiple big- and small-screen projects over the last few decades. The two co-starred in The Father of the Bride franchise, the Prince of Egypt, Only Murders in the Building, and Three Migos! alongside Chevy Chase.

Short and Martin are no strangers to the Studio 8H stage, as they previously hosted the show three and 15 times, including a 1986 episode in which they shared hosting duties with Chase. It’s also worth noting that Short was an SNL cast member for a single season in the 1980s.

Other stars who’ve co-hosted SNL include Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman in 1983, Mr. T and Hulk Hogan in 1985, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey in 2004, as well as series alumni Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in 2015.

This week’s episode also featured musical guest Brandi Carlile.
