One of the memes I see every couple of years that will never fail to make me laugh is that photo of a dude with a balled-up first in front of a string ray tank with the caption “About to touch a string ray… I should punch it though just to let it know Steve Irwin still got shooters out here.”
The meme is the perfect encapsulation of a unique facet of millennial culture and that’s the emotion that still lingers surrounding the untimely death of Steve Irwin. It’s just one of those things that seemingly everyone is able to agree on: the world was better off with Steve Irwin in it.
Staggeringly, it’s now been 16 years since Irwin died off the coast of Australia after he was pierced in the chest by a sting ray. If that doesn’t make you feel old, this certainly will — Steve’s 24-year-old Bindi is now the mother of a 1.5-year-old girl.
Twitter got a recent introduction to Bindi’s daughter Grace as the young girl was filmed waving to a photo of Steve, her “grandpa crocodile”, in a wildly heartwarming video that was shared by Bindi herself.

Based on the response to the video — or anything related to the late wildlife legend — Steve Irwin undeniably still has shooters out here. Rest in Peace, Steve.
