Back in October of last year, (Has it really been that long?) Star Ocean: The Divine Force was revealed during a State of Play presentation. The title is part of celebrating the 25th anniversary of the series. Now, Square Enix has dropped some more information on Star Ocean: The Divine Force with a release date trailer, with the adventure launching on October 27, 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and Steam.
Here is the trailer for your viewing consumption:
Got to love those dramatic line reads. They are an RPG staple.
The trailer is a nice mix of cutscenes and gameplay. Everything looks like it runs smoothly, and the ability to fly short distances looks like a lot of fun. The story feels appropriately dire, which gets players in the mood to do some universe-saving.
Over at Square Enix’s website, a wealth of additional information was revealed for Star Ocean: The Divine Force. The RPG features a dual protagonist system where gamers can choose between the main characters Raymond and Laeticia. You’ll get to view the story from their perspective, and the companions you meet will differ depending on which hero you choose. Clearly, you’ll want to pick the path that leads to the recruitment of Midas. Look at the swagger on this guy:
We also get a look at the game’s locations, battle system (no loading combat arenas, Chain Combos, etc.), and exploration. In addition, Star Ocean: The Divine Force will release physically and digitally. Preorders will be available from June 30, 2022. There is a Digital Deluxe Edition as well, which includes the game’s soundtrack and in-game items. Early purchases will grant gamers special items, too.
I’m happy to see a release date for Star Ocean: The Divine Force. I was always interested in the franchise, so this upcoming RPG might be just what I need to take the plunge.
