SPOILER ALERT – Do not read ahead if you haven’t watched the new season of Squid Game!

The third and final season of Squid Game is finally out! New episodes of the Emmy-nominated series were released on Netflix on Friday, June 27.

Here’s the synopsis: The third and final season of Squid Game follows Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) after losing his best friend in the game and being driven to utter despair by The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who was hiding his true identity to infiltrate the game. Gi-hun persists with his goal to put an end to the game, while the Front Man continues onto his next move and the surviving players’ choices will lead to graver consequences with each round

In the final moments of the last episode, an Oscar-winning star makes a surprise cameo that seemingly sets up the future of the franchise.

Keep reading to find out more…After Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) sacrificed himself to save Player 222, aka Jun-hee’s (Jo Yu-ri) baby, the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) traveled to Los Angeles to tell Gi-hun’s daughter that her father had died and to present her with his belongings, including what was left of his winnings.

While driving away, he spotted a recruiter playing a game of ddakji with a tattooed man and has his driver pull over so he can watch. After a couple rounds of ddakji and slaps, the recruiter – played by Oscar winner Cate Blanchett – looked up at In-ho.

This implies that a new Squid Game is either starting in America or that it’s already in process and In-ho is in L.A. checking in on how it’s going.

While Netflix and director Hwang Dong-hyuk have made it clear that Squid Game will not have a fourth season, it is possible that there could be a spinoff series in the future.

Back in October 2024, it was reported that Netflix and director David Fincher are developing an English-language spinoff series. If you didn’t know, David and Cate previously worked together on the 2008 movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Stay tuned as we wait to find out more about the future of the Squid Game franchise! In the mean time, fans can visit the show’s immersive real-life activation in New York City.
