Spudbros sparks backlash over reaction to Keith Lee loaded potato review

Popular UK potato chain Spudbros has sparked backlash over their reaction to Keith Lee’s review of their iconic loaded potato that comes complete with beans and tuna.

Keith Lee and his family traveled to London, England, to review various foods around the United Kingdom including Black Sausage, beans on toast, and more.

Fans were left shocked at Keith’s reaction towards a few of the meals, but that didn’t stop the food reviewer from working down his list of recommended restaurants.

After his review of Spudbros briefly leaked, however, the reaction from its owners sparked backlash from fans and customers of the loaded baked potato restaurant.

After a snippet of Keith Lee’s Spudbros review showing his distaste for the meal leaked, the restaurant’s owners posted a video talking about how they should have given Keith different toppings on his potato.

“I’m sorry, the people of Britain love cheese, beans, and tuna. I just thought Keith Lee would like it,” he said. “…I just thought I’d risk it. It’s a British delicacy.”

The other owner added: “It’s not the right time, but we will change those American minds.”

Keith’s whole review was posted two days later, and the influencer addressed the video leak and the company’s response to his reaction.

“I’m fully aware that the behind-the-scenes of this entire review was already posted by somebody on my team by mistake,” he said. “The way it was reacted to made me not want to post the video at all. The only reason I’m posting this is because I was asked for my opinion on multiple occasions.

“I don’t like the narrative that was spun that I was being disrespectful when in reality the owner was sitting right there when I was trying it and he gave me a thumbs up about it. I was asked for my opinion, and I gave my opinion, which is personally – it didn’t work for me.”

Keith went on to share the reaction from his wife and cousin, who both really enjoyed the beans and tuna mixture on the loaded potato.

One of the Spudbros owners posted another video addressing the situation after Keith’s full video dropped, and admitted that they tried to make it “a bad situation.”

“We just tried to make it a bad situation, not good,” he said. “We did it with lighthearted banter and a bit of sarcasm as well. Cheese, beans, and tuna are not everybody’s favorite, we absolutely get that. His wife likes it, and his cousin. But there are no absolutely hard feelings there. Respect that Keith Lee came, he’s one of the biggest food reviewers out there.

“We completely get it now. No hard feelings. Thank you for coming down, [Keith].”

Despite the company’s video, fans made it quite clear that they were not happy with how the popular potato restaurant responded to Keith Lee’s opinion of their food. Many also pointed out that they felt like Spudbros was “dragging out” the controversy.

“You guys are dragging this out way too much,” one user commented, while another added: “This is like the 50th video I feel like I’ve seen them make about Keith Lee.”

“This entire thing has turned me off from you guys. I’ve loved watching y’all but this dragged out way too much and over-dramatized it,” replied another.

“‘Light-hearted banter,’ nah bro y’all were in your feelings majorly,” a third user said.

This isn’t the first time one of Keith’s reviews sparked backlash towards a restaurant. Back in November, Keith Lee’s viral review of FOB Sushi Bar in Washington left viewers convinced he ate a parasitic worm, leading to the restaurant briefly shutting down.
