The efforts of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone to purchase and restore the landmark Colorado restaurant Casa Bonita are the subject of a new documentary opening in theaters next month. Watch the trailer for ¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor! below.
In the clip, Casa Bonita is described as the “Mexican restaurant Disneyland” before Parker shares his childhood obsession of owning it one day. The trailer continues by offering a peek into why they had to sink millions into the restaurant. Comparisons to Kitchen Nightmares are made.
“Any savvy businessperson would say get out now, but that’s not the point,” Parker admits. “I better go start making some new TV shows.”
Parker and Stone, who famously featured Casa Bonita in a 2003 episode of South Park, set out to purchase the restaurant in 2021 after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The documentary was directed by Arthur Bradford, who previously said in a statement: “I think people will be surprised to see the level of hands-on devotion Matt and Trey poured into this place. Trey was fueled by a Wonka-like passion to bring back the Casa Bonita of his youth.”
¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor! opens theatrically in Denver on September 6th. It will then roll out in select cities including New York and Los Angeles on September 13th, followed by its streaming debut on Paramount+ this fall.
