The Royal Family is changing.
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, royal member titles have changed and there’s a King in charge for the first time in 70 years.
Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, at Balmoral in Scotland. She was 96 at the time of her passing and she held the royal title of Queen for 70 years.
The Dawn Of A New Royal Era Has Come
Her son, formerly known as Prince Charles, is now King Charles III. He was the formerly known as the Prince of Wales before taking over the monarchy.
Friday, His Royal Highness made his first public address as monarch.
On September 9, King Charles announced his first-born son, Prince William, will take over his royal title as Prince of Wales.

From the blue drawing room of Buckingham Palace, the new king announced, “Today I am proud to create [William] Prince of Wales. The country whose title I’ve been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty. With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the center ground where vital help can be given.”
William’s new royal title is now the “William Prince of Wales.” He used to be the Duke of Cambridge, but succeeded his father’s title as “Duke of Cornwall.”
This means his wife, Catherine “Kate” Middleton, now holds the title “Catherine Princess of Wales” and Duchess of Cornwall.
Catherine “Kate” Middleton Takes Over Princess Diana’s Title
This royal title was previously held by William’s mother Princess Diana.
She was the “People’s Princess” and beloved across the world. Her life was tragically cut short on August 31, 1997 in a horrible car accident.
This year marked the 25th anniversary since her untimely passing.
Catherine is the first royal to use the title “Princess of Wales” since Princess Diana.
The newly titled Princess of Wales has long been referred to as “Kate” in the media.
But now, social media is demanding she be called Catherine and not Kate.
Social media feels it’s disrespectful that she’s been referred to as Kate for over a decade.
“Looking forward to Catherine no longer being referred to as Kate Middleton! Diana was not called Diana Spencer all the time by the press after marriage. Princess Catherine or Catherine Princess of Wales sounds sublime,” an impassioned fan tweeted.
“Hopefully the media will call her Princess Catherine now and not Kate Middleton,” another wrote.
One person demanded, “Princess of Wales. Not Kate Middleton. Show some respect!”
“Her name is Catherine. Why do the media insist relentlessly on referring to her as Kate Middleton? They didn’t continuously refer to Diana as Di Spencer or Camilla as Camilla Shand,” another pointed out.
Princess Catherine has long been compared to Diana given their fashion choices, commitment to children’s charities and Catherine’s dedication to causes that focus on issues often overlooked such as addiction and mental health.
Over 11 years ago, William proposed to Catherine with ring that once belonged to his mother.
It’s a 12-carat oval sapphire engagement ring surrounded by a whopping 14 diamonds.
