Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós have announced a limited run of very special dates with a 41-piece orchestra in both Europe and North America. In conjunction with what are sure to be fantastic shows, the ensemble shared that their first new album in 10 years is on the horizon and is expected to release in June.
Sigur Rós have been writing and recording the new collection of songs for the past several years and are now readying to debut them to the world with the help of the Wordless Music Orchestra in North America. They’ll also perform favorites from their extensive catalog during the tour, which will kick off at Meltdown Festival in the U.K. on June 16, during which they’ll perform with the London Contemporary Orchestra, who will follow them during their European tour dates. Notably, all orchestral performances will be conducted by Rob Ames.
The announcement comes in the wake of an incredible 2022 for Sigur Rós, which enjoyed a world tour and the return of keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson after a decade. The reunion with Sveinsson coincided with their recording sessions at the iconic Abbey Road studios in London, during which The London Contemporary Orchestra joined.
Sigur Rós are expected to continue to share more surprises and information with fans the days get longer and reach toward the summer months.
