EXCLUSIVE: Bleiberg Entertainment has picked up international rights to action caper Killing Mary Sue, starring Sierra McCormick (American Horror Stories) Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding), Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints), Jason Mewes (Clerks), Martin Kove (Cobra Kai) and Kym Whitley (Rango).
The film, which is currently in post-production, will be on sale at the upcoming American Film Market in Las Vegas.
Written and directed by James Sunshine, Killing Mary Sue is about a corrupt senator who arranges for the murder of his biggest liability, his erratic burnout stepdaughter, only for her to unwittingly discover her natural talent as an untouchable killer. Below is a first-look image.
Pic is produced by Larry Layfield for Arck Productions, Jonathan Sachar for Morningstar Films, Patrick Durham and Dave Lugo. Executive producers are Rosy Sultana and Abdul Bhuiyan.
“This absurdist film takes inspiration from the heated online debates surrounding the infamous ‘Mary Sue’ character trope and seeks to satirize the discourse in a new way,” said writer/director James Sunshine.
“We’re very excited to be representing this action-packed film with a terrific cast and non-stop thrills. We were drawn to this film because we haven’t seen anything like it in the markets for a while. It’s original, clever and entertaining, never relenting on its delivery of both wit and chaos and we believe both buyers and audiences around the world will respond to that,” added Ariel Bleiberg, Head of Acquisitions and Development at Bleiberg.
