Although it sounded like Shōgun would be a 10-episode mini-series and no more, it’s not really very surprising that FX has reversed course in light of the show’s popularity. Now, Deadline reports that Hiroyuki Sanada has signed a deal to return as Lord Yoshii Toranaga in a season two of Shōgun. While there are still many details to work out about a season two, it sounds like FX is hoping Shōgun could compete in the drama series category of the Emmys, instead of the limited/anthology one.
Ultimately, Shōgun was a thoughtful, authentic, and well-crafted entry into the world of television. We would not be sad to see a Shōgun season two.
