Today host Savannah Guthrie revealed the news on yesterday’s show as she choked back tears in the emotional segment.

“With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and Today co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,” she said.

“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children.

“Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him.

She was then inundated with even more love, support and messages of condolence.

NBC and Today journalist Vicky Nguyen commented: “To Sheinelle and everyone in your beautiful family: In Vietnamese there’s a phrase chia buồn, which means to divide sadness or share grief.

“We are all sharing in your grief and hoping to lessen the burden of your heartbreak. To know you is to love you and this is so cruel and unfair.

“May Uche rest in peace and may your hearts heal. Sending our love to you all.”

TODAY Show hosts

NBC’s Today show premiered in 1952 and has bidden viewers good morning every weekday since, adding Saturday and Sunday shows in the 1980s and 1990s. The show’s current host lineup includes:

Nutritionist and Today star Joy Bauer added: “Sheinelle, my heart is with you. I feel so incredibly lucky to have known Uche—such a kind, warm-hearted, and truly extraordinary soul.

“I’m sending all my love to you, the kids, and your entire family during this difficult time.”

NBC news correspondent also commented, writing: “My heart breaks for you and your family Sheinelle. Sending you strength.”

When Savannah announced the news of Sheinelle’s husband’s passing on Friday,  co-hosts Jenna Bush Hager, Al Roker, Craig Melvin, Carson Daly and Dylan Dreyer all wiped away tears.

Following the announcement, Savannah then spoke of the three children that Sheinelle shared with Uche.

Sheinelle and Uche share son Kayin, 15, and twins Clara and Uche, 12.

“We just want to say, Sheinelle, Kayin, Clara and Uche and the Ojeh family, we are with you, we love you, you are our family, and we are just sending all of our love to you right now,” she concluded.

STEPPING BACK FROM WORK

Sheinelle announced her decision to step away from work in January, after fans became worried about her absence.

“I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show. I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter,” she said at the time.

“It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not on the support of my Today show family, but to also have all of you.

“Your kindness means so much to me. I’ll see you soon.”

She did not mention her husband or his cancer battle.
