Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse star Shameik Moore, who voices the lead character of Miles Morales in the successful animated film franchise, has publicly addresses his flurry of tweets over the weekend that came in the wake of Hailee Steinfeld getting engaged.
Over the weekend, Hailee Steinfeld, who stars in the Spider-Verse films as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, announced her engagement to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. The pair first made their relationship public in May 2023.
Just a few hours after her announcement, Shameik Moore took to X, formerly Twitter, and shared a post saying, “There’s still more people to meet. More opportunities to come. And more chances to try. Live, learn, apply.”

Given that Spider-Verse fans have long since suspected that Moore has a thing for Steinfeld, the tweet blew up, resulting in Moore posting a few more comments, such as “Crazy what yall decide to engage with when I post,” and “Yall been twisting my words and f—– wit my name for years now.”
At the FAN EXPO San Francisco 2024 earlier this week, Moore addressed his apparent crash out and said it’s been a “tough weekend.”
“It’s been a tough weekend, my brother. The internet’s been killing me, I’m sorry,” Moore said during the panel, according to ScreenRant.
Moore specifically detailed how a viral video of him seemingly “shooting his shot” at Steinfeld has been taken out of context as he’s actually just praising the experience of working with Steinfeld directly.
“A lot of times we don’t get to do it with cast mates, right? Because I might be in New York, Jake [Johnson] might be in Chicago… and we do the voice work from wherever we are. The second movie Hailee and I worked more,” he explained.
“And during interviews, I would speak about how much – I’m reading with Kemp Powers. I’m reading with Chris [Miller] or Phil Lord. So I’m always talking to older men every time either in person or whatever the lines are. [Laughs] And so, I spoke about how fun it was or how much easier it was working with my co-star. And then these video clips got put together.”

In addition to his starring voice role in the critically acclaimed Spider-Verse movies — a third, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is currently in the works — Moore is best known for breakthrough role in the 2015 film Dope and playing Wu Tang Clan member Raekwon in the Hulu show Wu-Tang: An American Saga .
