Selma Blair and Christina Applegate‘s friendship is stronger than ever!
The longtime pals and former co-stars have more in common than being Hollywood’s sweethearts. “The Sweetest Thing” stars are also battling the same chronic condition, Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
Blair recently shared how the actresses supported each other amid their life-changing diagnosis, and she had the highest praises for her friend. Read on to see what the 50-year-old had to say.
Selma Blair Says Christina Applegate Is ‘Nailing’ Life With MS
When dealing with MS like a champ, Blair is no stranger to the title. The “Hellboy” star has been battling the disease since 2018, while her friend announced her diagnosis in 2021.
Although the condition attacked people differently, leaving some with lifelong disabilities and others with mild symptoms. Having MS has not stopped either woman from thriving to the best of their physical abilities.
For example, Blair achieved the fantastic feat of dominating the dance floor on “Dancing With The Stars” for weeks until her condition caused her early retirement from the competition. Nonetheless, the “Cruel Intentions” star returned for a final hurray at the show’s finale.
There the Queen of radical hairstyle changes got candid about her relationship with Applegate during her brief chat with ET’s Denny Directo. The mother-of-one expressed gratitude for being alive to witness the end of “DWTS” and watching her friend’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.
“She is an iconic California girl actress of my generation,” the bleached blonde gushed about Applegate, “There has not been one thing that she’s done that I haven’t been like, ‘Nailed it,’ and she’s nailing just being who she is with this MS.”
Aside from supporting her former co-star’s professional feat, the Michigan native equally helped the “Dead To Me” actress amid her battle with MS. According to Blair; she was simply returning the countless favors Applegate has given her. In her words:
“Christina still supports me. She’s just a strong one. She really is. She’s such a nurturer. If you need something, she’s at your house. There have been things that I had been unglued, and she’s like, ‘I’m outside. Answer the door.’ She’s just amazing and strong and fun.”
In return, the “Legally Blonde” actress helped her friend with “canes” and other items that make it easier to navigate life with MS. The Hollywood veteran said, “I’m more like, ‘OK, if you need help with canes,’ and that stuff, ’cause I’m like, really into all of that, like all the things that help me get around, but she’s getting it locked down.”
As for how Applegate has been coping with the condition, the Young Hollywood Award honoree revealed that battling MS had been a difficult task for her longtime pal. However, the California native continues to handle the situation with beauty and brilliance.
Last month, The Blast reported that the “Married… with Children” actress embraced the disease by taking time away from the public’s eyes. Although she stopped making public appearances, the 50-year-old updated fans regularly about her health on social media.
In one of her Twitter updates, the TV personality made light of her situation by sharing a picture of five different canes. Alongside the image, the mother-of-one explained that she would use one of these walking aids to attend an important ceremony.
Although she did not elaborate on the event, the People’s Choice Award winner gave a special shout-out to the cane maker while poking fun at herself. Applegate wrote: “Walking sticks are now part of my new normal. Thank you, @neowalksticks, for these beauties.”
Selma Blair Opened Up About Her Painful Departure From ‘DWTS’
The Blast previously shared that when Blair left the ABC dance show, she broke more than her pro partner Sasha Farber’s heart. “The Fog” actress survived the weekly rounds to become a potential candidate for the Mirrorball trophy.
However, she had to leave because of MS. Looking back at her departure, the “A Guy Thing” star shared the lessons she gained from DWTS. The Michigan native explained that surviving that long in the competition exceeded her expectations.
Most importantly, Blair was grateful to the show’s producers for including people like her in the competition. A good example is actor Daniel Durant, who is deaf.
