Gomez’s night out in New York on Tuesday came with an added twist that she might not have been expecting.

According to TMZ, the singer was at Nobu Fifty-Seven for dinner in the city, a fancy restaurant in Manhattan’s Plaza district.

When Gomez departed the restaurant to head to her destination, fans approached her for pictures and to sign autographs.

However, when that was over, a homeless man hanging around asked the pop star for some money.

Although the singer appeared to have no cash on hand, that didn’t stop her from lending a helping hand. She quickly asked her bodyguard for money and gave the homeless man a $20 bill.

She then ended their brief interaction with kind words, telling him to “have a good meal.” After the exchange, Gomez got into her SUV and drove away from the location.

Gomez is renowned for her love of helping people. She currently contributes 1% of the cosmetics sales of her brand, Rare Beauty, to its charity arm, Rare Impact Fund.

The fund, which has raised $16 million since its launch, donates to mental health foundations and initiatives spanning five continents in support of mental health initiatives, per its website.

Gomez is committed to this philanthropic act because it stems from her own mental struggles, which she has been open about.

“I struggled with the world inside my head for a long time, and I felt lost and I felt hopeless at times. And in 2020, I received my diagnosis of bipolar disorder. And to be honest, everything quickly changed,” Gomez said during her first annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit in October 2023, per People.

Despite doing much for charity from the wealth she has amassed from Rare Beauty, Gomez still wants to remain humble about her wealth.

“I personally think it’s distasteful to talk about money, but I really am giving all the credit to people who buy the products,” she said at the premiere of her new film, “Emilia Pérez,” held last month.

She added, “They’re the ones that made this dream of mine come true, so I’m really, really honored and just happy.”

Earlier in the year, she also shared that she preferred focusing on the impact fund of the brand and the product development while leaving all the financial responsibility to her managers and lawyers.

“I will admit it overwhelms me sometimes. I have this weird thing in my head where if I focus on the numbers, I’ll lose whatever it is that made Rare Beauty Rare Beauty,” she told TIME in May 2024. “I never wanted it to be about making a lot of money, and that’s it.”
