One of the biggest casualties of the 2023 actors’ strike was Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers, which stars Zendaya in the lead role.
The movie — for obvious reasons once you watch the trailers — was one of the most highly-anticipated of the fall season but it was ultimately bumped to April 2024.
Fast forward to today, however, and we’re now just about two months from the release of the film (on April 26), meaning the marketing push for the project is set to begin again, starting with the second official trailer.
Here is the official synopsis for Challengers, via MGM:
Tennis player turned coach Tashi (Zendaya) has taken her husband, Art (Mike Faist), and transformed him into a world-famous grand slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a “Challenger” event — close to the lowest level of pro tournament — where he finds himself standing across the net from his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend (Josh O’Connor).
Alongside Zendaya, Challengers also stars Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor. Luca Guadagnino is best known as the director of films such as Call Me by your Name, Suspiria, and Bones and All.
Before the release of Challengers in April, Zendaya will next be seen starring in Dune: Part Two, which is already being hailed as one of the greatest sci-fi films of the 21st century and is being compared to the likes of The Empire Strikes Back and The Dark Knight.
Hitting movie theaters on March 1, Dune: Part Two also stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken and Léa Seydoux
