Sarah Michelle Gellar shuts down rumors of red carpet feud with Jennifer Love Hewitt

Sarah Michelle Gellar is setting the record straight after fans speculated about a feud between her and former co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt. The online chatter began after the pair, who both starred in the original 1997 horror film I Know What You Did Last Summer, were not seen posing together at the reboot’s red carpet premiere at The United Theater on Broadway in Los Angeles on Monday, July 14.

However, Gellar, 48, quickly addressed the chatter. She explained that she was inside the venue with her children, Charlotte, 15, and Rocky, 12, when the main photo call took place.

In an Instagram post, she wrote, “For everyone asking, I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt, who is fantastic in the movie. I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened. And unfortunately, JLH didn’t come to the after party.”

“If you have ever been to one of these, it’s crazy. I sadly didn’t get pics with most of the cast. But that doesn’t change how amazing I think they all are. Unfortunately, some things happen only in real life and not online.”

Gellar had earlier shared a carousel of images from the event on Instagram, celebrating the momentous night with her family and friends. She captioned that post, “What a night!!! Still can’t believe…years later (no need to date myself) I got to walk the red carpet at another premiere of @ikwydlsmovie.” 

“Still starring the most handsome man I know @realfreddieprinze but this time directed by my best friend @jennkaytin and written by Jenn and @samlansky. I love this movie sooooo much and this cast!!”

Gellar and her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., 49, met on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer and married in 2002. While Gellar’s character, Helen Shivers, didn’t survive the original film, Prinze reprised his role as Ray Bronson in the reboot.

When asked if Gellar had any fear of missing out as he prepared for the new film, Prinze laughed during an interview with Extra.

“You know, I only prepare my scenes in private. It’s like, a really, like, I’ve never shared it with anyone. I don’t run lines with people.”

She continued, “I really try to break everything down alone. So she didn’t get to see anything. They got to come out and visit when I was in Australia, which was nice. That’s where we shot most of the movie. The rest was here in Los Angeles. I don’t know if there was any fear of missing out. She’s a pro. She knows what’s up.”
