In response to Hugh Jackman actively campaigning against him getting nominated for an Academy Award, Ryan Reynolds has responded by trying to kill Jackman with kindness. Sort of.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Reynolds — similar to Jackman last week — posted a “for your consideration” video about Jackman’s performance in The Son (which was recently nominated for a Golden Globe).
In the video, an earnest Reynolds says that his buddy Jackman deserves award recognition for his performance in The Son, which he says is some of the best work of Jackman’s career.
“Hey everyone, you know last week, Hugh Jackman lovingly asked the Academy to *not* vote for our song ‘Good Afternoon’ in the Best Song category. I’m not going to stoop to that level. I’m going to rise to the occasion and rise above it all and I’m going to say right now that I loved Hugh’s performance in The Son,” Reynolds begns.
“There’s zero sarcasm here — no wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Hugh’s performance as a son struggling with his relationship with his dad, it’s literally one of the best of his entire career. And his career is very impressive already. He’s already nominated for a Golden Globe, so I humbly submit Hugh for your consideration.”
At the end of the video, though, Reynolds shows his true colors by scoffing at the fact that Jackman referred to their upcoming film together as “Wolverine and Deadpool,” obviously taking issue with the fact that he put Wolverine first.
Reynolds and Jackman will team up to shoot Deadpool 3 later this year ahead of its current November 8, 2024 release date. The film is being directed by Shawn Levy, who has recently collaborated with Reynolds on films such as Free Guy and The Adam Project.
