The first trailer for Project Hail Mary –- based on the novel by Andy Weir, starring Ryan Gosling, and directed by filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller — has been released. Project Hail Mary is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 20, 2026.
The film — based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, who also wrote The Martian — follows a teacher, Ryan Gosling, who is sent 12 light-years away from Earth to save humanity after the Sun began to die. Project Hail Mary was presented at CinemaCon in Las Vegas earlier this year and left as one of the event’s most talked-about films.
In addition to Gosling, Project Hail Mary also stars Academy Award nominee Sandra Hüller, Milana Vayntrub, Lionel Boyce, and Ken Leung. Alongside the official trailer, Amazon MGM Studios also released a brief synopsis for the film, both of which you can check out below:
“11.9 Light-years from home. 6th grade science teacher. 1 chance to save us all.”
Project Hail Mary marks the latest blockbuster venture for the Oscar-nominated Gosling, who has starred in big budget films such as The Fall Guy, Barbie, and The Gray Man since returning from an acting hiatus in 2022.
Gosling’s commitment to blockbuster filmmaking isn’t going to slow down anytime soon as he’s set to be the lead of Shawn Levy’s hilariously redundantly titled Star Wars movie Star Wars: Starfighter and remains attached to an Ocean’s Eleven prequel alongside Barbie co-star Margot Robbie.
