In an Instagram Q&A, Rumer shared insights into motherhood, including the significance behind her daughter Louetta Isley’s name.
Responding to a query about the name’s origin, the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” star explained, “Her name is a mix of things I love. I have always loved the name, Lou, so was thinking of that for both a boy and a girl. When we found out she was a girl, we came up with Louetta.”
She added, “We wanted to give her options and me and my dad’s favorite singers are Lou (Louie Armstrong), Etta (Etta James), and Isley (Isley Brothers).”
Rumer and her partner first announced they were expecting on Instagram last December, revealing the pregnancy through a collection of black-and-white photos. The intimate series also featured affectionate selfies capturing Thomas kissing Rumer’s baby bump.
She Was Worried Her Daughter’s Name ‘Wouldn’t Work’
In an interview with People magazine, Rumer revealed the unexpected origin of her daughter’s name. Louetta “was a typo,” she explained. “Her dad and I were texting, and he left the ‘R’ out of Loretta, and it was just Louetta.”
Despite the accidental creation, the 35-year-old embraced the name, considering it a “divine intervention universe moment.” However, Rumer revealed that she had concerns about the name’s suitability for her child.
Recalling, she shared: “What was scary was, I love this name, but oh man, is it going to be her name? Is it the right name? What if she comes out and doesn’t look like this?.”
She continued: “I fell in love with the name so much, so early on, that I was then worried that it wouldn’t work. But then she came out, and I mean, to me, at least right now, I was going to name her Lou, whether she was a boy or a girl.”
“The House Bunny” actress and her partner later found confidence in the name’s “versatility,” adding: “If she doesn’t feel like a Louetta, she can go by Lou, she can go by Etta. She can go change it up throughout her life. Whatever she wants.”
