Spanish Twitch star Rubius was quickly unbanned after a miscommunication with SEGA led to a copyright strike while playing Sonic Frontiers during his broadcast.
With nearly 13,000,000 followers on Twitch — Rubius has made a name for himself as one of the top Spanish-speaking streamers on the platform.
However, on November 7, 2022, he was hit with a ban as well as the removal of his partnership status shortly after going live with gameplay from the upcoming Sonic Frontiers game.
At the time of the ban, Rubius had nearly 30,000 viewers enjoying the game alongside him for the first time.
Rubius banned from Twitch after streaming Sonic Frontiers
Shortly after the ban, Rubius posted a response on his Twitter page, claiming that Sega told him that he was able to stream it immediately after installing the game.
According to Twitter’s built-in translate option, he said: “Sega today sent me a code for Sonic Frontiers. In the email, they tell me that there is no embargo and that I can stream it now. Sega proceeds to ban me from Twitch. WTF???”
In the tweet, he also shares a screenshot of what appears to be his email claiming there is no embargo.
Set to release on November 8, Sonic Frontiers is the latest release in the series — and for the first time, truly open world.
Rubius Twitch account quickly unbanned
Just an hour after SEGA hit Rubius with a copyright strike that caused his ban and loss of Twitch partnership, his account has been restored completely.
It’s safe to assume that Rubius will be able to head back into Sonic Frontiers sooner than later, alongside his nearly 30,000 viewers.
