As Romy gears up for a string of summer festivals and headlining tour stops in the coming months, she’s released her latest single, “Always Forever.” The glittery dance track is centered on an interpolation of the Donna Lewis classic, “I Love You Always Forever.”
The song arrives with a music video directed by the Oscar-nominated Charlotte Wells, who made waves with her confident, tender 2022 directorial debut, After Sun. “Always Forever” marks Wells’ first-ever music video, and she takes the opportunity to play with reflections, light, and movement, all of which were pivotal hallmarks in her feature film, too.
“Always Forever” is Romy’s first release since her solo album, Mid Air, arrived last September. She worked with buzzy producer Fred again… on the song, which she initially debuted live at Mexico City’s Ceremonia Festival.
While Romy continues her work as a soloist, the xx also teased new music on the horizon earlier this year. With a few dates for “Club Mid Air” still on the horizon between summer festival appearances, now is the perfect time to revisit our review of her New York City stop.
