After breaking into the Hollywood out of London’s legendary West End on the HBO series Industry, David Jonsson’s career has since exploded following his scene-stealing turn as Andy — a synthetic android — in Fede Alvarez’s 2024 film Alien: Romulus. How big of a breakout was it? Jonsson has since been cast to star as the legendary Sammy Davis Jr. alongside Sydney Sweeney as Kim Novak in Colman Domingo’s directorial debut.

Almost immediately after Alien: Romulus hit theaters, the film was deemed enough of a success — grossing over $350 million against an $80 million budget — to put a sequel into development with Alvarez set to return as director.

Given the way Alien: Romulus ends, it’s clear that Alvarez — if not having a fully-formed story in his mind — was setting up where he hoped the sequel could go with Jonsson’s Andy and Cailee Spaeny’s Rain.

Speaking to Jonsson ahead of the release of his new film The Long Walk , we asked the 31-year-old up-and-coming actor about reports that the sequel will begin filming this year, and his answer, although indirect, was quite telling all the same.

Alien: Romulus star David Jonsson implies the sequel to the film will film this year

“I can’t share very much,” a sly Jonsson told us. “But I will say I don’t think you’re far off — your sources have something to them.”

Alien: Romulus was the seventh film in the iconic Alien franchise following Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992), Alien Resurrection (1997), Prometheus (2012), and Alien: Covenant (2017).

Jonsson will next be seen starring in The Long Walk — based on the iconic Stephen King novel — from Constantine, I Am Legend, and Hunger Games franchise director Francis Lawrence alongside Cooper Hoffman. Check out the trailer for The Long Walk, hitting theaters on Friday, September 12, below.
