This Time Next Year, starring Sophie Cookson (Kingsman: The Secret Service and Lucien Laviscount (Emily in Paris, Your Christmas Or Mine?) will arrive at The Roku Channel for free streaming Feb. 10, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

The streaming platform acquired the U.S. rights to the movie after Signature Entertainment secured the Irish and UK rights in April 2024, releasing the film June 3. Deadline exclusively broke the news of the casting and project ahead of the Cannes Film Festival in 2023.

The film is based on the best-selling book by Sophie Cousens. It follows Minnie Cooper (Cookson) and Quinn Hamilton (Laviscount) as they reunite after their shared birth date, Jan. 1. Quinn, in fact, was the first baby born of the new year, and Minnie has always resented him because he took her name. The love-fate relationship that sparks between them gives the holiday a new meaning entirely.

“We look forward to bringing this film, with heartfelt storytelling and an incredible cast, directly to our Roku streamers, just in time for Valentine’s Day,” said Brian Tannenbaum, Head of Originals, Roku Media.

This Time Next Year is produced by Herbert L. Kloiber for Night Train Media, Giuliano Papadia from BlackBox Multimedia, and Erika Hossington. Executive producers are Chiara Cardoso from BlackBox Multimedia and James Copp from Night Train Media. The project is overseen by Morgan Pichinson and Sabrina Lyall on behalf of Roku Originals.

The ensemble cast also features Golda Rosheuvel (Bridgerton). Rosheuvel will also lend her voice to narrate the U.S. version of the film. It’s directed by Nick Moore (Wild Child), the celebrated editor of legendary romantic comedies Love Actually and Notting Hill.

The Roku Channel also recently snagged the first season of Apple TV+’s Severance to stream ahead of the release of Season 2 Jan. 17.
