Robotaxi drops YouTubers into traffic and they can’t believe it

A Tesla Robotaxi dropped YouTubers off in the middle of traffic, and they couldn’t quite believe it as they uncovered a “bug” with the service.

For years, car manufacturers have been trying to perfect the production of self-driving cars. While they still aren’t readily available across the globe, there are a few countries that allow them to be used in taxi services.

Predominantly, these are in China and the United States, and like most things, they haven’t gone totally to plan just yet. Waymo taxis, for example, have been known to honk their horns at ridiculous times of the night.

Even though the cars are on the road, these bugs and mistakes do still happen, and there are a number of riders dedicated to finding the problems.

YouTuber Farzad has been testing Tesla’s Robotaxi service too, but got quite the shock during a ride when it decided to drop him in the middle of an intersection.

The unusual mishap came during his June 23 video, as the former Tesla employee and his podcast co-host, Hans, asked the self-driving car for an early drop-off ahead of their planned stop. While it looked like the Robotaxi had, from the inside, passed the intersection, the door swung open into active traffic.

“We are stuck, a little bit, in the intersection,” Hans said. “The car should have known to not stop there,” Farzad added. “We found a bug, kind of!”

Hans also noted that the self-driving taxi didn’t set them down where he’d initially wanted, and overshot it to drive into the intersection.

Despite the mistake, the pair were quite pleased by how “smooth” things went overall, calling it a “surreal” experience to be drive around by a computer.
