Marvel Cinematic Universe godfather Robert Downey Jr. is full of praise for Pedro Pascal, whose Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic is seemingly being set up for a Tony Stark-like role in the future of the MCU.

Pedro Pascal is having an incredible year in 2025, as he’s featured in The Last of Us, Freaky Tales, The Materialists, The Fantastic Four, and Eddington. This is nothing new for the widely-beloved 50-year-old, however, as he’s been on this sort of meteoric ascent for the better part of a decade, beginning with his breakout role of Oberyn Martel in the fourth season of Game of Thrones.

That late-career rise-to-fame for Pascal is something that Robert Downey Jr. — who as truly seen all of the highs and lows that Hollywood has to offer over the decades — says has “reaffirmed his faith” in the movie-making business.

“Pascal’s slow trajectory to becoming a household name who is on a wildly hot streak kind of reaffirms my faith in our industry,” Downey told Vanity Fair in a profile piece about The Fantastic Four star.

“He doesn’t have much armor, so he shows himself to you straight away, and you trust that person because he’s revealing himself to you in this very brave way,” co-star Vanessa Kirby added.

The Vanity Fair piece adds that the pair have gotten close on the set of Avengers: Doomsdays and during the “homework days” that he hosts at his house so the cast can (presumably) workshop scenes.

Downey is set to return to the MCU, albeit not as Iron Man, but as Doctor Doom, in Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently filming ahead of its scheduled December 2026 release.

Given the Doctor Doom character’s historical connection as the Fantastic Four’s arch nemesis, many MCU fans are speculating/hoping that RDJ makes his debut as Victor von Doom in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which will hit theaters on July 11.
