RIHANNA has swooped to take something fans believe is rightfully Katy Perry’s.
Katy voiced the character Smurfette in the first two movies of The Smurfs trilogy.
However, Rihanna will voice Smurfette in the upcoming Smurf movie, which will be released in 2025.
Fans on X, fka Twitter, were upset at Katy not reclaiming the role.
“…WAS KATY PERRY BUSY?!?!? IM SORRY I LOVE RIHANNA BUT THIS IS KATY PERRY’S ROLE,” one fan exploded on the social media platform.
“This is the closest we’re getting to a Katy x Rihanna interaction nowadays,” another remarked.
Others welcomed the change in casting.
“I’m loving this new tradition of having a famous pop singer voice Smurfette! First Katy and Demi, now Rihanna?! The girls are thriving,” one X user shared.
Songstress Demi Lovato portrayed Smurfette in the 2017 film Smurfs: The Lost Village.
Katy’s unavailability might stem from her busy schedule.
After Season 7 of American Idol, Katy might have some free time on her hands.
Earlier this year, the pop star confirmed she was leaving Idol after seven seasons, blindsiding fans with the bombshell news.
BIG NEWS
Katy shared the news on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in February.
“This fall, in September, I’m going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio,” she said without warning.
“So I think this will probably be my last season for Idol.”
When the crowd gasped, Katy quickly added, “I mean, I love Idol so much.
“It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I need to feel that pulse of my own beat.”
But when Jimmy asked what her fellow Idol judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie thought of the move, Katy shocked fans further, admitting, “Well, they’ll find out tonight!”
RECENT BACKLASH
Katy’s exit doesn’t upset many fans.
Idol fans recently shaded Katy for seemingly not judging equally.
She’s claimed to be tougher on women contestants while narrowing down this season’s top 24.
On social media, fans called the pop star out for her seeming harshness, especially toward the female singers.
“Katy Perry is a bit harsher this year and not as cartoonish…,” one X user revealed.
“Katy Perry is so critical of every female singer…. #AmericanIdol,” someone else asserted.
“Why does she always have more critique of the women than she does of the men?” another commented.
“I don’t feel like these women are deserving of Katy’s wrath,” a viewer quipped.
