Hollywood legend Sir Ridley Scott was built different long before the phrase was even coined.
Despite now being 86 years old, the iconic Academy Award-winning Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, and Gladiator director remains as active as ever.
Not only is he gearing up for the release of Gladiator II in November, but he also recently revealed he’s begun writing a third film in the franchise.
“I’ve already got eight pages,” Scott said in an interview with TotalFilm. “I’ve got the beginning of a very good footprint.”
Scott had mentioned that he was “toying” with the idea of a third Gladiator film earlier this year when speaking with the French magazine Premiere.
“I’m already toying with the idea of Gladiator 3. No, seriously! I’ve lit the fuse,” Scott said “The ending of Gladiator II is reminiscent of The Godfather, with Michael Corleone finding himself with a job he didn’t want, and wondering, ‘ Now, Father, what do I do? ‘ So the next [film] will be about a man who doesn’t want to be where he is.”
Gladiator II will be released in movie theaters in the United States on November 22, 2024 — 24 years after the release of the Best Picture-winning original.
In addition to Paul Mescal in the lead role of Lucius, Gladiator II stars Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Derek Jacobi, May Calamawy, Rory McCann (The Hound in Game of Thrones!), and more.

“Gladiator II continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome. Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people.”
