AMC has shared the first look trailer for the upcoming spinoff, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.
Set after the conclusion of the original Walking Dead series, The Ones Who Live follows Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) on their quest to be reunited. The trailer depicts Grimes and Michonne as they journey across the expanse in the hope of finding each other, encountering allies, foes, and plenty of walkers along the way.
“The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were,” reads the show’s official logline. “Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”
After departing the show in 2018, Lincoln was set to continue the story of Rick Grimes in a series of Walking Dead films that have since been shuttered. Instead of the original three-movie slate, The Ones Who Live will consolidate those films into yet another spinoff series for AMC.
The series’ title is derived from the final lines of The Walking Dead’s finale in 2022, in which Rick’s daughter Judith (Cailey Fleming) tells a character that they are “The ones who live.” Lincoln and Gurira reprised their roles in the episode, appearing on the show for the first time since 2018 and 2020, respectively.
Now, they’re headlining the new spinoff series, with Pollyanna McIntosh also reprising her role as Jadis/Anne from the original series and fellow Walking Dead spinoff, The World Beyond. Also set to appear in The Ones Who Live are Frankie Quinones, Leslie Ann-Brandt, and Lost’s Terry O’Quinn.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premieres on AMC and AMC+ on February 25th. It follows previous Walking Dead spinoffs Fear the Walking Dead, The World Beyond, Tales of the Walking Dead, Dead City, and Daryl Dixon.
