British actress Natalie Dormer (“The Tudors” and “Game of Thrones”) pays tribute to Dr. Audrey Evans in the new film “Audrey’s Children,” which was released in theaters on March 28th.

Dormer stars along with Jimmi Simpson (who portrays Dr. Dan D’Angio) and Clancy Brown (who plays Dr. C. Everett Koop).

The synopsis is: British physician, Dr. Audrey Evans (Natalie Dormer), is newly recruited to a world-renowned children’s hospital and battles sexism, medical conventions, and the subterfuge of her peers to develop revolutionary treatments, purchase the first Ronald McDonald House for families of patients and, ultimately, impact the lives of millions of children around the world.

The movie is inspired by true events, and is set in Philadelphia in 1969. It was written by Julia Fisher Farbman, and by directed Ami Canaan Mann.

Jimmi Simpson is remarkable as Dan, who is the voice of reason, while Clancy Brown also steals every scene he is in this movie.

“Audrey’s Children” tackles a delicate, sensitive, and melancholic subject matter such as terminal pediatric cancer, but there is also levity and humor to help balance out the emotional, dramatic moments in this movie.

Without giving too much away, this is a bold and unflinching story that needs to be experienced by all.

The Verdict

Overall, Natalie Dormer is incandescent in the new movie “Audrey’s Children,” which is gloriously transformative as a whole.

Dormer is able to embody the heart and spirit of Audrey Evans, the first female Chief of Oncology, like no other, and her ensemble cast of actors is also impressive, and they help tell Audrey’s important story.

Dormer layers her emotions well, and her portrayal of Dr. Audrey Evans is equal in excellence to that of Marion Cotillard as Edith Piaf in “La Vie en Rose” meets Cate Blanchett as Phyllis Schlafly in “Mrs. America,” both of which were also prominent real-life characters.

One thing is for certain… Dormer portrays an inspirational woman who is an unsung hero in the medical field in a powerhouse performance (based on a true story) that audience members will not want to miss.

It is highly recommended that viewers check out “Audrey’s Children,” and it garners 4.5 out of 5 stars. Bravo.
