Today, it was unveiled that Relix Publisher and impresario Peter Shapiro will join David Fricke for a conversation on Fricke’s SiriusXM show, The Writers Block. The segment is set to take place on the Spectrum, channel 28, on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 8 p.m. ET and replay on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. ET.
Fricke–a longtime Rolling Stone writer whose career stretches back over 40 years, has interviewed nearly every rock artist and written liner notes for LPs from Led Zeppelin to Billy Joel and John Prine to Nirvana–will converse with Shapiro about his new book, The Music Never Stops: What Putting on 10,000 Shows Has Taught Me About Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Magic.
The Music Never Stops was released on Aug. 2 and details Shapiro’s experiences and insights gained from operating Tribecca’s legendary Wetlands club, reopening the fabled Capitol Theatre and multiple Brooklyn Bowl venues and organizing many major music events. The book, which also includes backstage anecdotes never before seen photographs from Shapiro’s time behind the curtain, has the intent to give readers a guide to the music industry from a man who Phish’s Trey Anastasio called one of “the rarest of personalities in the music industry… full of unbridled enthusiasm, and joy, with huge energy and huge ideas.”
It’s notable that on Aug. 9, Shapiro and Fricke discussed the new book live and in person at New York City’s Strand Book Store’s 3rd-floor Rare Book Room. The conversation fueled by a shared enthusiasm and love for music revealed much sage wisdom from both Fricke and Shapiro, who Variety called “the most notable independent concert promoter since Bill Graham.” Though much was said during the panel in New York, the upcoming feature on The Writers Block implies the two still have a lot to discuss and explore about Shapiro’s latest venture.
