An already rough month of May got a little bit more embarrassing for rap superstar Drake over the weekend.

The Canadian spent most of the month on what many consider the losing end of a beef with fellow star Kendrick Lamar.

Now he’s having to answer even more questions about the legitimacy of his songs after a reference track for his 2019 single “Mob Ties” leaked online.

The song, which was originally released on his album Scorpion in 2018 and then as a single on January 6, 2019.

Several writers are credited on the track, including Drake and producers Allen Ritter Boi-1da. The song also samples Nas’s “Affirmative Action”, so both supergroup The Firm and the production team Trackmasters are also credited.

Houston Rapper Vory Appears To Have Given Drake A Reference Track For ‘Mob Ties’

But then there’s another name.

Houston rapper Vory is credited as a songwriter. But DJ Akademiks previously downplayed Vory’s involvement in the process. As did Drake.

Now it appears that not only did Vory contribute to the song, he wrote the overwhelming majority of the hit track.

Drake’s history with reference tracks runs deep.

In 2015, a reference track for “10 Bands” led to allegations that the self-proclaimed “6 God” uses ghostwriters. He’s since admitted to as much.

The “Mob Ties” reference track isn’t a ghostwriter situation. Drake does credit Vory on the track. But it once again has fans questioning how much of Drake’s music he actually writes himself.

Especially at a time when he’s locked in a beef with an arist that many consider the best lyricist in the game today.

Fans were shocked by the newest leaks.

So, what exactly has Drake written by himself?

The latest revelation may well be the reason that his beef with Kendrick appears to have fizzled out as we get closer to summer.
