HBO Max wants more of that Rap Sh!t.
Variety reports the comedy series, created and executive produced by Issa Rae, has been picked up for Season 2. “We’re so happy to play in the world of ‘Rap Sh!t’ for another season with this incredibly talented team,” Rae said in a statement.
Rap Sh!t tells the story of Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion), two estranged high school friends from Miami, who reunite and form a group. City Girls are co-executive producers alongside Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas of Quality Control Films and Sara Rastogi of the Rae-founded HOORAE.
The renewal comes less than two weeks after the Season 1 finale aired on HBO Max, which has undergone sweeping changes since its parent company Warner Bros. merged with Discovery earlier this year. It was reported in August that as many as 36 titles were expected to be removed from the streamer as part of an effort to pull the company out of its alleged $50 billion hole.
Rae signed her third overall deal with WarnerMedia last year. Sources tell Variety her latest pact is for five years and valued at $40 million. “She’s obviously very talented and she’s very prolific,” HBO and HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys said of the Insecure mastermind. “It’s been very good to work with Issa personally, but also as a company, because she’s seeded a lot of talent elsewhere.”
Aside from Rap Sh!t, Issa Rae is also an executive producer on the HBO comedy A Black Lady Sketch Show.
