Ev’rybody wants to be a cat! And now, per Variety, everyone will want to be a quasi-realistic, quasi-animated cat in Disney’s next cartoon remake, a live-action The Aristocats movie. Live-action reimaginings of Disney animated movies are all the rage these days. We’re very excited about the upcoming The Little Mermaid movie. Disney has even managed to pull off hybrid “live-action” movies that star largely animals like The Lion King and Dumbo. So we guess that paves the way for a live-action The Aristocats.
Of course, we’d prefer to see real living and breathing cats and animated humans, just for a change of pace. But that probably won’t happen. Variety reports the live-action The Aristocats will be a “blend of live action and CGI.” Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson will direct the movie.
It’s a bold move for Disney, though, considering we saw a similar style of movie-making in that famed hit, Cats. Although we can only hope our beloved family from The Aristocats won’t have humanoid faces… Or even just lifelike moving mouths. We don’t know how this one will go, but we definitely feel curious. Whether that’s a good or bad thing for cats remains to be seen.
