Chopra shared some of her wellness secrets in an interview with Vogue. She says that she starts each day with a glass of water. “I didn’t want the answer to this to be drinking coffee, so this is a new thing. What I now do, and it’s something I learned in India, is keep a copper glass next to my bed and keep water in it overnight. The good qualities of copper seep into the water – it’s good for the immune system, bones and nerves. I drink that cup first thing, then I start my espresso machine and go about my day.“
Chopra has amazing skin, and shared some of her secrets in an interview with Vogue. She says that she makes sure to remove all of her makeup. “I’m all about good skincare. If you have good skin – a good base – you can wear as much or as little make-up as you want. Your skin is the foundation to being able to express yourself through make-up. I think it’s important to take off all your make-up at the end of the night so there’s nothing, no mascara or remnants of the day. It’s a therapeutic process for me. If I need to take off make-up (like mascara) that isn’t easy to remove with just a face wash, I use a Shiseido make-up remover that’s super gentle and removes it all.“
Chopra loves to meditate. “I think meditation comes in different forms,” she says to Vogue. “Mine is when I really lock into work. It feels like a meditative thing to me when I’m on set and thinking about building the character. Whenever I’m being creative, I feel meditative. Wellness [for me] includes eating right, consuming the right things, and I’m all about being good to your body and treating it like it’s your best friend.
Chopra tells Vogue that she likes to swim to stay in shape. “I’m not someone who does very well in classes, but I swim. I do 15 to 20 laps. It boosts my mood and I feel super energetic and ready to go.” The Mayo Clinic states that swimming has a lot of benefits. “Exercise in an aquatic environment offers numerous options and techniques for almost all levels of physical ability. Exercise can be as basic as walking in the water to more high-level aerobic activities, such as deep-water running or swimming. Standing exercises often are performed in water that is waist to chest deep. These exercises can focus on improving range of motion/flexibility, balance and strength. Resistance training can be amped up by simply increasing the speed of movement or adding equipment, such as mitts, paddles, noodles or bands, to increase drag.”
Chopra leads a busy life, however, she does believe in making time for herself. “My wellness really comes from my mental health,” she said to Glamour. “I believe in having a sense of balance. I lived in extremes during my 20s, but that’s too tumultuous. Now I’m getting older I look for balance, whether that’s taking a walk with my dogs and the baby, or having a minute to myself with my face mask and my coffee, or oiling my hair, or my nighttime routine listening to some music. Five minutes of doing something for you can really help heal the day.”
