Multi-platinum recording Latin and bachata artist Prince Royce chatted about his new studio album “Eterno,” music career, and being a part of the digital age.
Byron Pulsifer once said: “Imagine, dream, and believe in yourself. With determination and belief, you will be surprised at what you accomplish.” This quote applies to Prince Royce.
Song selection process for the new album
“I had a really long list of classics, and I just tried them all in bachata style, and saw which ones fit the best, really.”
“There were some songs where I felt that the translation wasn’t right, or I felt that they wouldn’t fall in the rhythm correctly, so I didn’t include the ones that wouldn’t come natural,” he explained.
Favorite song on the album
On his favorite songs on the collection, he said, “There were a couple that I thought were pretty cool. I love ‘I Want It That Way’ (Backstreet Boys) as well as ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ due to its great energy and good feel.”
“Also, I love Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Go Your Own Way’ because we gave it a rock feel, which was really fun. We had a lot of fun with that one in the studio,” he added.
Music and songwriting inspirations
On his music and songwriting inspirations, Royce remarked, “I try to just really be poetic, and I try to be real.”
“I try to spread positivity and I try to romantic. These songs came in a time before there was auto-tune. They were very musical, free, real, and they showcased the artistry of the musicians. We’ve lost a bit of that these days,” he explained.
“You see people buying vinyl and digital cameras. These songs have that nostalgia of wanting to go back to these eras where it was just more positive music and vibes,” he elaborated.
“I think with this project specifically, I wanted to project that era, and I try to bring it to the kids today,” he added.
The digital age
On being an artist in the digital age, at a time when streaming, technology and social media are so prevalent, Royce said, “I have a vinyl player and I have a cassette player, and you could just hear it.”
“Back then, it was just a different era,” he recalled. “If I can bring 50 percent of that into today’s world, I feel I would be doing a good job.”
Career-defining moments
When asked about his career-defining moments, he reflected, “When I sang with Ben E. King at the Latin Grammy Awards, that was a moment that I remember a lot. Also, my first collaboration with Daddy Yankee was the first moment I worked with a big artist.”
“There is definitely a key thing each year that defines me and is memorable,” he acknowledged.
Future plans
Regarding his future plans, he shared, “I am hoping to visit countries that I haven’t been to in a while, and countries that I haven’t been to ever. I am hoping to keep singing and to keep touching hearts. That’s what it’s all about.”
“I will be at Barnes & Noble in New York on May 16th doing promo for the new album,” he said. “We are doing that, and I will also be doing some other promotions over there.”
“We will definitely be announcing some tour dates soon,” he added.
Dream duet choices in music
On his dream duet choices in music, he said, “There are so many people such as Enrique Iglesias and I would love to see Justin Bieber do something again in Spanish. Perhaps something like that. I have a long list of dream collabs to do.”
“A Ricky Martin collab would be a good one too,” he added.
Stage of his life
On the title of the current chapter of his life, he said with a sweet laugh, “Eterno.”
Superpower of choice
If he were to have any superpower, he stated, “It would be cool to just teleport places.”
“I would be able to save so much time,” he said. “Like I was stuck in traffic for one hour today.”
Favorite motto to live by
His favorite motto to live by is: “Live life smiling.” “That’s my e-mail signature,” he revealed.

Favorite series to binge-watch

Greatest lesson the music industry has taught him
On the greatest lesson that the music business has taught him, he shared, “You need to have thick skin and you need to have perseverance.”
Royce reveals his favorite hobbies
His hobbies (to unwind and relax) include playing video games, going to the pool and the beach, as well as running marathons, scuba diving and skydiving.
“I’m running my third marathon this year. I ran New York, I ran Japan and I am doing Chicago now,” he said. “I also got my license to skydive solo.”

“I love Mykonos and Santorini,” he admitted. “It was like a postcard. I’ve never seen the day be so beautiful or the sunset with the mountains and the water; it was insane.”
“I would take pictures on my phone, with no filter, and the photos would come out incredible,” he elaborated.
Prince Royce defines Success
On his definition of the word success, Royce remarked, “I think success is different for everyone. Success is whatever fulfills you and whatever makes you happy.”
“Also, setting a goal for something and achieving it. I think there are different forms of success. I think success is defined by each person individually,” he noted.
“We should look at success more as peace of mind, and feeling better about it as opposed to stressed about it,” he added.

Message for his fans and supporters
For his fans and supporters, he stated about “Eterno,” “I hope that this album can really bring the love, the joy and the eras that were perhaps way before ours, and I hope that they could just enjoy it.”
“I just want to be able to unite cultures together and unite generations. I hope they could enjoy this album with their parents and with their loved ones, and just bring that unity together,” Royce concluded.
American track and field running legend Steve Prefontaine once said: “To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift.” Prince Royce embodies this wise quote.
