Prince Harry’s ‘Spare’ Paperback Set To Debut In October

The Duke of Sussex Prince Harry‘s “Spare” memoir is finally getting a paperback version.

The revelation comes after months of speculation about whether the Invictus Games founder will release a paperback version after the success of the hardback version.

Prince Harry’s memoir will debut on the bookshelves in October, and it will retain the same cover image and content but at a lower price.

When the hardback edition of “Spare” was released in January 2023, it broke many records, including becoming the fastest-selling nonfiction book of all time.

Since then, there has been growing curiosity about whether Prince Harry would eventually follow up with a paperback version.

As more than a year has passed, many began to speculate that a paperback may not be forthcoming, particularly given that it’s typical for such editions to be released within six months to a year after the initial hardback publication.

Those questions were finally answered after Harry’s publishers, Penguin Random House, revealed that a paperback version will be available in late October.

The book is currently available for preorder at a cheaper rate of $22, compared to the hardback’s $36 price. It will be issued in 16 languages worldwide and come with the same cover image as the hardback edition.

Given the dramatic developments in Harry’s relationship with the senior royals since the hardback’s debut, many anticipated that the paperback edition would feature new revelations in a fresh chapter.

However, Penguin Random House has confirmed that the book’s contents remain unchanged.

Some see this decision as Harry extending an olive branch to the Palace, with whom he has maintained a lingering feud since stepping down from his senior royal duties in 2020.

Clearly, any new revelations could potentially worsen Harry’s already fractured relationship with the Palace and cause further embarrassment.

Still, whether or not this influenced his decision to forgo adding new revelations, some believe that even without fresh disclosures, the release of the paperback edition will reignite interest in the bombshells already present in the hardback.

In the meantime, it remains to be seen whether the paperback version will achieve the same success as its hardcover predecessor when it finally debuts on the bookshelves.

According to royal expert Ephraim Hardcastle, the delay in releasing a paperback Harry’s ‘Spare’ memoir was due to the prince’s struggle to find new “sensational” or newsworthy information that could be added to the book.

“It seems Harry has no new spare excitement to impart. His family has kept him at arm’s length, aware that anything they say could be taken down and used in evidence against them,” the journalist wrote in a column for theDaily Mail.

He added, “The only exclusives Harry could offer relate to his view of the Coronation from behind Aunt Anne’s plumed hat and how he nipped into Buck House en route to Heathrow to use the loo.”

The possibility of Harry releasing another memoir in the future remains likely, given that he and his wife, Meghan Markle, have a four-book deal with Penguin Random House, signed in 2021.

Some experts even predict that Harry might proceed with another book, although no official announcement has been made.

“I do think he would write about his family again,” said royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, per the Express. “I suspect that maybe he would release a book after his father passed away.”

Schofield also added that the release of such a book would be more likely if Harry’s brother, Prince William, continued to “keep [him] at arm’s length.”

Another royal expert, Ingrid Seward, dismissed the possibility, claiming Harry would not do so due to the strained relationship with the Palace.

“I can’t see that Harry’s up for writing another book,” said Seward in an interview with Honey Nine, per the Daily Mail.

Recent rumors have also indicated that Meghan may be planning to write her own memoir as a follow-up to previous interviews in which she shared shocking insights into her time as a royal.

“The talk among their friends is that it’s time to take the gloves off and do away with the diplomacy,” an insider informed Closer.

It was also mentioned that Harry and Meghan’s snub from the annual Balmoral trip sparked the duchess’s desire to tell her story.

“It’s not just about pride or hurt feelings, there are very ugly repercussions for them when this constant narrative that they’re family outcasts keeps getting fed,” the source shared.

They added, “They’re now being forced to figure out a strategy to fight back, and one option on the table is to go all-out with a big tell-all from Meghan where she completely lays out her side of the story.”
