The Preservation Hall Foundation’s annual benefit series, dubbed Midnight Preserves, returned to Preservation Hall’s Big Easy location for the onset of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and subsequent musical offerings, from Thursday, April 24, through Sunday, April 27.
As is tradition, the host band welcomed a slew of special guests over the initial four-day series, beginning on night one with featured help from the likes of Weedie Braimah and the Hands of Time, Seun Kuti, Papa Tito’s Sompa, DJ Logic, and Mixateña de Santa Cecilia.
Collaborations continued on night two, with East Coast favorites Goose, Karl Denson, and Revivalist’s David Shaw taking part in the stealth concert at the 100-person-capacity location. Read a full recap here.
Saturday night brought hometown flavor from Erica Falls, in addition to blues guitarist Luke Winslow-King, and fellow night three guest, singer/songwriter Shannon McNally. Sunday’s gathering found Preservation Hall Jazz Band accompanied by Dave Matthews and Jeff Coffin, who performed a rendition of Led Zeppelin’s “Fool in the Rain.”
